Creation Space

The Library Creation Space and STEAM area are community spaces that promote creativity, critical thinking, and access to tools and technology. With our free Cricut Maker and Glowforge laser cutter (and more awesome technology like 3D printers coming soon), you can create pretty much anything you can imagine.

Use of the equipment requires a Valnet library card. Users must complete a Release of Liability and any required training before using or reserving Library equipment. Users under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the Release of Liability. Users under the age of 12 must have a parent or responsible person age 18 or older with them while using any equipment, except in the case of Library staff-led programs specifically developed for younger patrons or volunteers.

Before arriving at the library to use any of the equipment, please call (509) 758-5454 to confirm that there are trained staff or volunteers available to help you get started.

If there is any problem with the equipment, please stop use and notify library staff immediately.

Available Equipment

cricut Maker

Cricut Maker

COMING SOON! The Cricut Maker is not currently available for public use, but we are looking for a volunteer with Cricut experience! Contact adultservices@aclib.org if you're interested!

The Cricut Maker is an all-purpose craft machine that cuts paper, vinyl, fabric, leather and more. Make original designs on the Cricut app or website (available for download in the App Store and Google Play) and then send them to the Cricut when you are in the Creation Space.

The library has some material available for use (scrapbook paper, vinyl), but availability is on a first-come, first-served basis and while supplies last. We cannot guarantee we will have material available for every project. If you have a specific project in mind, please bring your own material.

Suitable Materials:

  • Cardstock
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Copy Paper
  • Adhesive Vinyl
  • Glitter Vinyl
  • Cotton Fabric
  • Faux Leather

The library subscribes to the Cricut Design Space templates, which are available to you at no cost in the library. To use those designs, please ask a staff member to log in to our account on the Creation Space laptop.

You can also create your design at home by making your own Cricut account and downloading the Design Space software onto your own computer. There is also an app available through IOS or Google Play if you prefer to use your phone or tablet. The software and app are your design spaces where you can choose from free design templates or choose to pay for more options.

Here are some short videos to get you started on your creative journey.

Glowforge Laser Cutter/Printer

Glowforge Laser Cutter/Printer

With the Glowforge laser cutter, you can create complex designs by cutting or engraving on a variety of materials.

Choose a project from the Glowforge Catalog or bring your own design in a .jpg, .png, or .svg file, saved onto a flash drive.

Visit the Library event calendar to see the Glowforge public use hours. These are drop-in, first-come, first-served times. Some projects take a considerable amount of time to engrave and cut; the library reserves the right to ask someone to make an appointment for another time if their project takes too long to be completed during the public use hours.

The Friends of Asotin County Library supply wood and acrylic materials for patrons to use at no charge, limited to supply on hand. We cannot guarantee we will have material available for every project. If you have a specific project and material in mind, check with us ahead of time for availability.

If you bring your own material to cut or engrave you must provide a receipt or tag that states what the item is made of. Material approval is up to the discretion of the Glowforge staff. It is highly recommended that you bring extra material for testing.

Approved materials include:

  • Most woods (unstained/unpainted)
  • Paper, cardstock, or Crescent board
  • Cardboard
  • Cork
  • Acrylic, Lucite, Plexiglas, or PMMA
  • Non chlorine-containing rubber
  • Glass
  • Stone, marble, granite, soapstone, or onyx
  • Ceramic tile
  • Some metals

These materials cannot be cut or engraved with the Glowforge:

  • Stained woods
  • MDF
  • Vinyl
  • Plastic
  • Polycarbonate/LEXAN
  • Foam
