Get started by coming to the library today to choose some free books to read with your little one!
Asotin County Library Foundation's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a fun and free way to start your child on the path to learning success. Get started by coming to the library today to register and choose some free books to read with your little one!
By reading to children, you provide them with a deep understanding about their world and fill their brains with background knowledge. They then use this acquired knowledge to make sense of what they see, hear, and read, which aids their cognitive development.
Any child ages 0-5 years can participate.
1. Set a Goal
Set a goal of reading 1000 books before kindergarten. Sign up at the library or at asotincountylibrary.org. You can read books you already have, check out books at the library, or pick up a couple of free books when you visit the library.
3. Read, Read, & Repeat
New book, same book over and over, books we read at Play & Learn and Toddler Time, books read at daycare - they all count toward the goal of reading 1000 books. Books read by Grandma or Grandpa on FaceTime? Yes, they count too!
4. Celebrate 100-Book Milestones
You completed the log! Great! Grab another and keep going! Come into the library with your child and pick up a small prize.
5. Reach the 1000 Books Goal
Great work! Come to the library and receive a certificate of completion.
6. Keep Reading
Don’t stop at 1000! Make reading a lifelong habit.
